TCS Placement Paper (Aptitude, Technical, Interview) August 2010

Aptitude: I gave my aptitude at 11:00am on 29th of august 2010. This round was online (touch stone ) with +1 for each correct answer and -0.33 for every incorrect answer. In all there were 35 questions to be solved in 60 mins..No verbal questions. Logical And Quantitative Questions on subjects like age, average, series, permutation and combinations etc were asked..the difficulty level was not so high but the questions were lengthy and unnecessarily made complicated.
Half of the question (especially first half) was just to increase the length of question n divert attention..Formulae are also provided for reference which i dinn go to chk whether they wer useful ;)
For age related problems for eg.
Peter and Paul were frnds........After six years Paul vil be twice as old as Peter was when peter was as old as paul..if sum of their ages is 36 find the age of peter.

here we have to solve by considering the options and substituting the value in the equation obtained..This was the nac for these type questions..i got 3-4 age related problms.
A women has some gloves and hats..she has 15 red,37 yellow and 47 white colored gloves in a box..(then some lines just to distract.....)As there is no light, how many minimum no of gloves should she pick so that she has a pair of each color..
A farmer buys a horse for Rs 9 in 2003.(some essay...............) and decides to sell it at Rs 19 in 2006.(..............)he again invests in purchase of horse by purchasing it at Rs 27 in 2009 and selling it t Rs 39 in 2010.....wht is the average profit made.
if the ratio of ages of fathe and son is 6:5 , when will the average of thier ages be 8:7 if the sum of their ages is 44.this question is very simple but contained a lot of unwanted data wich is skipped here.
a girl tries to build a building of 100cc with 5cc,4 cc and 2cc blocks..how many minimum number of blocks vil be required to constrct a buildin of (some given dimension)....
one crape cloth piece of 57inch length is be cut make........the tailor thn decides to use 8cms long and 12 cms wide instead of crape cloth piece..Minimum how many such pieces wil be required...
one scale 10cms wide is kept.another scale of 14cms width is overlapped on this scale.Then the scale of width 10 is placed adjacent .
Again the 14cms scale is overlapped....so on and so forth....How many scales are required to make a combined width of 52cms in the same fashion....
then there was a simple logical question on directions..A man travels 20 kms west then takes a right n goes 7 kms....He takes a right again n travels 20 kms..and moves straight for another 8 kms....find the distance he came frm his orginal position...
some questions regarding series completion and volumes and cisterns was asked..
The results of the aptitude were announced soon and out of the ~380 students who gave the aptitude only 35 were selected for the Technical Round.

Concepts of overloading, polymorphism ,inheritance and threads was asked.
Management Interview:
I had my MI and TI together..for my MI i was asked all routine questions..
Tel me ur strengths and weakness..
Do u knw whts going on in IT industry..recent activities in IT sector..
y shud i hire u?
Wht do u knw abt TCS? Why do u want to join this company..vil any other company besides TCS do..? Do u have facts and figures to support ur arguments?
Do you have any of your acquaintances in TCS?

R u ready to relocate?Veg/Nonveg...... etc etc
After this was a complete nail biting tension of TI+MI results.....Some 25 mins later i was taken for HR round.
HR Round:
This was the best interview..all similar questions.....gave a puzzle to solve....asked about diff languages i knew..was made to speak in a few of them.. :) sir was very lenient and hence i din have any sort of uneasiness.. Few hours later at around 6:30pm,our results wer announced and my happiness knew no bounds whn my name was called and everyone around clapped..
Out of 380+ who appeared for aptitude, 35 qualified for the TI and finally after all rounds, only 11 were selected on the second day at Nagpur......I am proud to be among them. Very happy to join TCS family.

TCS Job Interview Placement Paper Pattern: September 2010
TCS Recruitment process consists of four rounds:
The questions are like..
Q.1. The ticket for a journey is in the range of 1 to 63 paise. You have 63 paise in your pocket and so on. and the question is You have to change the money into coins and all denominations are available at final. You have to buy the ticket and you should have at least one coin? (not same figures)
Ans. 64 (Just add 1 to highest i.e. 63+1)
Q.2. The sum of two numbers is given and product is also given find the square of difference of two numbers..
Ans. (a-b)2=a2+b2+2ab..
Q.3. The dog and here are running, dog crosses the roads, rivers and different. Here start running after 2 hours of dog running, dog runs 30kmph in 6 hours then what is the average speed of here?
(values are not same)
Ans. 30*6/4
Q.4. In a restaurant there are different nine flavours of pizzas.....
Q.5. A length of rod is turned into triangle. The sides of a triangle are 12,16,10. if this rod is turned into square then find the area of the square?
Ans. rod length=12+16+10=38
length of the side is a square=38/4;
area=(38/4)*(38/4)
Q.6. There are some chocolates. A woman can eat 3chocolates and a man can eat 1 chocolate and a child can eat half chocolate. then 20 chocolates is divided in...

Q.7. A water tank is filled in the way as 256,128,64,... th parts in every hour, then in how many hours the tank will filled?
Ans. 256,128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 ( 9 hours) values are not same..
Q.8. The age of Ram and Sayam are in the ratio 5:6 and after 4 years their ratios are 7:8 then what is the present age of Sayam?
Ans. 12years (names and values may change)
The result of written test is given with in 24 hours time and by luck I am one of the short listed candidates.. and the remaining rounds are conducted for me 2nd September.

So be confident in this round if you cleared this round then you are almost placed but do not neglect HR..

Finally the results was given after 20 days and I am one the selected candidates..

Written Test:
It is the most important round to achieve success. In this round 35 questions with 60 minutes .The questions are very lengthy and time consuming but if you found the logic it is very simple. All most all questions are having 7 to 10 lines but the useful data is in the last two lines. And one more point is in this round there is a negative marking of 1/3. If you answered the above 20 questions you will be short listed.The questions are like..

(Aptitude + PSYCHO + Technical + HR) TCS Placement Procedure
Firstly, TCS has several levels of tests/interview in their selection procedure.
1. Aptitude test (generally online test) consisting of three sections,
verbal abilities, quantitive abilities and logical reasoning abilities. In
verbal, u r asked antonyms of several words in english language, similar but
less exhaustive than GRE verbal section. Quantitive consists of class X
level mathematical skill testing problems. loogical reasoning will ask you
yes/no/can't say type qstns based on a paragraph. u will have to read
through the paragraph fast but efficiently understanding only the main pith
of the written material.
regading the words, they ask the same words over and over again. So,
memorise the word meanings from all the papers that i have put up. U will surely get all of them common. In case, u have given GRE, don't bother abt this section
at all. All words are common. Each section is time limited. I have forgotten the exact time division. So u can not afford to waste too much time on any one section.
2. Psychometry: When u clear the above three section, u will be allowed to
appear for psychometry. Its 150 qstns to be answered in 30 min. Always
remember to give POSITIVE and CONSISTENT answers since the same qstn repeats with a different sentense construction sometimes later. Try to hide -ve
traits in ur character as like being impatient, getting bored easily,
distracted easily, feeling uneasy in a gathering of many people, unsocial
and over talkative nature, etc. They ask qstns like whether u wld make
friendship with a person of opposite sex, feel insomnia without reason,
consistently brood over a mistake u did in the past, the type of person u r,
etc etc. what u r actually is not important, what qualities wld make ur
employers happy is important.
3. After u clear psycho, is ur technical interview. Qstns come mainly from
the projects, experiences u have gathered. They check ur resume and the blue
form and ask qstns from there. Even sometimes they test ur logical ablities
by asking puzzles like the type they ask at Infy. get through with the
project works and stuff and be smart and reply confidently.
4. Clearing technical inter will make u elligible for HR interview which is
also the final stage. Qstns are various types, including ur background, ur
hobbies, etcx etc. They are known to harrass people with their hobbies. so,
whatever hobbies u write, plzz be through with it and prepare so that u can
answer qstns from ur hobbies. Like if u say singing, plzz get through with
ur scale and technical things related to singing etc. If u like reading,
plzz be prepared to name a few novels and face qstns on those novels. Also,
they might try to embarras u by asking qstns of personal and slightly
indecent nature like abt ur boyfriend, ur affairs(if any) etc. Stay calm and
answer them with a smiling face. Keep eye contact. Don't get provoked by any
means.
Thats abt all. They take a week or so to announce results. So have patience
and hope for the best.

Psychometric Test
This test consists of 150 questions and is just a pyshcology test which should be answered confidently and doesn't require any preparation.One must try being consistent while answering as the same questions are repeatedly asked in different forms.Also one must answer all questions.Questions are of yes or no kind.
